Pedro in the Forest
Jaume Cabré (Barcelona, 1947) came to fame in the contemporary international literary scene with Las voces de Pamano (The Voices of Panamo) and his other novels Fra Junoy o la agonía de los sonidos (Fr Junoy or the Death Throes of Sounds), Señoria (Rule) and La sombra del eunuco (The Shadow of the Eunuch); he has also published the collection of short stories Viaje de invierno (Winter Journey), the play Lluvia seca (Dry Rain), and the essays El sentido de la ficción (The Meaning of Fiction), La materia del espíritu (The Matter of the Spirit) and Las incertidumbres (Doubts). He has written scripts for television and the cinema. He is a member of the Instituto de Estudios Catalanes and was given the Catalan Literary Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. His fame was consolidated with Yo confieso (I Confess), his latest novel, which was awarded the Prix Courrier International for best foreign-language novel in 2013, and Ciudad de Barcelona Prize 2013 for the international promotion of that city. This monumental work has consolidated his reputation as the indisputable benchmark of contemporary Catalan authors.
