'Water Paths' is the second book in the 'The Light of Artús' trilogy and begins a long way from where 'Caminos de noche' ('Night Paths'), the first volume, left off. But we are reunited with Ruth, the heroine of the first book, in the castle of Montsegur. It may seem a safe refuge, but the war has set the continent on fire and the forces who pursue her are determined and have a long reach. Although Ruth knows she will have to overcome new challenges, not everything is down to her. Her guide and friend Marcos El Anchova is willing to keep helping her, even though this means going to the deepest corner of the empire. In this second book the field of play opens up. We realise that the world is even bigger. There are more people and the game extends beyond the borders of the familiar. Everything is connected, and a small event here could dictate the fate of a continent.
