Paco Castañón, an expert in the subject, becomes interested in a batch of old comics being sold on the Internet. They lead him to Brussels, where he follows the trail of the author and discovers the existence of audio tapes which go with the comics. The artist was an exiled teacher who took part in the Second Spanish Republic's Pedagogic Missions. The volunteers travelled round the provinces with mobile libraries, put on plays and screened films. Castañón inadvertently uncovers the story of a group of idealistic pioneers who come up against the people who inhabit a savage land.
A stunning recreation of popular culture during the Second Republic - with its stories, comic books, serialized novels and jazz bands - with hilarious dialogues and sequences of traditional oral histories clashing with high academic culture.
